TranSystems Role in Industrial Park Development

A question was posed to me several weeks ago in regards to TranSystems’ role in helping with industrial park development and if there were any conflicts of interest in our firm or myself working with multiple industrial parks when many of these same parks are competitors. While I can certainly see the potential ethical issues, I thought I should take a moment to explain how we approach working with multiple communities.
First, we attempt to help our clients (local governments and EDC’s) determine what is best for them from several different perspectives and criteria. Some examples of items we assist with include, but are not limited to the following:
ü  Current state review of the site
ü  Competitive Analysis
ü  Target profiling
ü  Competitive Improvement Analysis
ü  Conceptual planning
ü  Finding project funding
ü  Preliminary and final construction documents
o   Road
o   Rail
o   Facility
ü  Construction administration and inspection
All of the services listed above are specific to that particular site and development of the site itself. We view ourselves as partners in developing the specific infrastructure needed to assist that site in its development. What we do not get into is marketing one client against another client, sharing confidential information between clients or steering prospective companies intentionally away from one of our clients to another client. Any of the previous strategies would not be smart for our business for a variety of reasons but mostly because we would not have any clients if we operated in that manner. We have hundreds of industry contacts available to us across our lines of business, from municipalities to railroads and from manufacturers to shippers and distributors that we treat with the utmost respect and confidentiality. We are able to maintain these relationships by always respecting the ethical lines of our business practice. We are a consulting practice and as such, our professionals and our relationships with our clients are our largest assets.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, as always, the door is always open.
